6th Week: Testing a program

It was a cloudy afternoon. We we're late to enter the classroom as the last class extended for almost 15 minutes. When we got in to the room our professor automatically checked the attendance. After he checked we we're teased of a quiz. There were no rebus puzzles today so we jump right into the discussion.

We discussed about Testing the program where it helps identifying defects of the program. The lesson that struck me the most is that the difference between Mistake and Error and Failure where mistake is it shows up later and an error is a mistake done by the developer and failure is the program isn't function as it is intended to be. It struck me the most since this is the life our life as programmers and developers and this lesson is basically everything that we have discussed.

I also learned from the discussion Test cases where it is indeed in our program it also helps in identifying the aspects of the program that needs to be tested. Our topic today was more on about testing our program until we can fix all the errors of the program. User reviews may also be a good help in the testing. I also learned about the Black Box and the White Box testing. We basically learned about testing techniques.

We also discussed about debugging where the class will joke around on us having to debug a code and we choose to debug it by the next day. We also learned about John Brooke’s Technique of User acceptance with also with the use of SUS where i struggled to understand how to do the calculations.

After our discussion, the class was grouped into 6 group and i was the 5th group. We were given an activity by our professor where we need to analyze the figure shown and dissect its problems and mistakes and then we will give our solution to the problems and mistakes. I helped a lot in analyzing the problems and mistakes in the figure and I had also given my own opinions, suggestions, and solutions to the problems. Meanwhile, Alex in our group was the one who solved the SUS.

After our short yet fun activity our professor then announced that for our midterm we must complete 70% of our system. Everyone was shocked as it is a huge amount. Meanwhile, I think it is possible if most of the things will go on our way and if we can have more time in developing. I hope it is possible though as it is our midterm requirement and we must do it.

When everyone was done discussing the class was dismissed.
